It hits you all of a sudden;
Out of the blue
And it smacks you straight in the gut
And you're suffocating;
The oxygen has vanished from the room
And your heart's beating too fast
And you're inhaling too quickly-but to no avail,
And you're first instinct is to run-
I wonder where you got that from?
But maybe if you can just get away from here;
Get out of this room,
Then maybe it'll be okay,
And you're gone before you know what you're doing
And panic begins to take over
Because nothing's happening;
You're panting
And nothing's happening.
And you've been here before,
You just need to calm down
So you look yourself in the eye
"Breathe" you chat, "Breathe"
And slowly you're coming back down,
Slowly you're lungs are beginning to fill
And your smile comes back;
Your laugh that fills the room
And the show goes on,
And it's amazing how you never learn
That pain is not something that can be outrun.
